What Should You be doing in this Lockdown?

The simple answer to this question is that there is nothing you SHOULD be doing during the lockdown. There is is no roadmap for this - it is a crisis situation the world has not seen the like of before.

We are all either FRONT LINE workers (we salute you), or staying at home trying to work at home, mind kids perhaps, older loved ones, home schooling. Most people have a burden of worries which may even include financial worries.

Here is what I have to say about what you should do every day - THERE IS NOTHING YOU SHOULD DO EVERYDAY. EXCEPT YOUR WORK IF YOU HAVE WORK. Apart from that, here is my take on all the Lockdown must do’s.

1) Do what you can, stop looking at posts of perfectly curated images of people learning a new language / instrument /artwork / hobby / workout UNLESS its making you feel good and you enjoy it.

2) Try and get outside every day - even for 10 minutes, see the sky, feel the air

3) Read or watch the news only if you need to be informed and only once a day

4) Try and move , walk , exercise, bike ride, what ever you can, the benefits are proven, ITS GOOD FOR YOU.

5) Try not graze on food all day, get a schedule around food if you can and lock away the crappy snacks.

6) If you are feeling bad, call someone. Call someone you think might be feeling bad and check in on them.

7) Caught in a spiral of worry - allow yourself 15 minutes to worry without limits, write if down if you have to, then tell yourself that’s it for today.

8) Do something which relaxes you - yoga, meditation, stretching, painting, gardening, Find something which can help turn your Stress System off and send more helpful signals and hormones round the body,

Finally a simple 6 breath exercise, in and out for 5 seconds, done twice will help you calm the body and mind, Repeat as often as you like.
