What to do if you HATE EXERCISE?

My Dad commented to me recently that I walk very fast and I have always been a fast walker – even when I was on the way to school, I always walked like I was on a mission. Thinking about this in light of the recent revised guidelines on physical activity because anything that gets the heart rate raised can count as physical activity and especially for those who are very sedentary and not inclined towards taking much exercise, this can encourage more movement and grow self-belief that some form of exercise is attainable for them.

So if you are not very active, you hate the idea of exercise or you are trying to encourage someone not very active then this new type of activity called High Intensity Incidental Physical Activity can help take fitness to the next level.Anything counts whether it is cleaning the house, sweeping up the leaves, taking the stairs, walking - just aim to do it with a level of vigour and intensity so that it gets your hear rate up.

By doing as much of this as possible, can help bring about the benefits of exercise in terms of living longer healthier, reduced risk of being overweight with the related complications. For anyone very sedentary it can put them on the road to believing that exercise may be something which could be doable for them as we know that for many of our population simply don’t take any exercise at all.

Start with working out what opportunities during your normal day you can incorporate this HIIPA - on the way to work, at work, doing the housework, doing the garden, washing the floors, walking fast rather than ambling, taking stairs not lifts. See how it adds up and then maybe just maybe you will become someone who might just like taking exercise.
