Get connected

Every week I train with a good friend of mine Jack Wise and for the past few weeks we have taken to going for runs through forest trails or up and down parts of the Wicklow or Dublin mountains. This came about because Jack was having some back issues which didn’t allow him to deadlift or squat heavy but could still run. It was also partly influenced by my reading (well should say listening as I now listen to more books on my iphone/kindle than I acutally read) of Bill Byrson’s fantastic book A Walk in the Woods.

Stick to the darn program

One of the hardest parts of my job is getting clients to stick to the darn plan. Every week I work with clients that can arrive super motivated and ready to train hard and keep their food on track to then discover a few weeks later they haven’t ‘had enough time’ to do 3-4 workouts per week each lasting about 20-30mins or maintain their nutrition to support fat loss and increased energy.

A weight off your mind

Many people take their ‘health’ advice from magazines that have a vested interest in selling you complete and utter rubbish and back it up with ‘celeb’ endorsement.

I would love to see a magazine bin like the above set up in Dublin. In the meantime have a read of the following so you can learn to look and feel your very best through proven healthy methods.

Punkle Henry

There are a handful of people I have sat and listened to or watched and never wanted them to finish e.g. Tony Robbins, Gore Vidal, Tom Peters etc.

Now you might not think a heavy metal punk rocker would be one of those people you will listen to endlessly but trust me when I say Henry (punkle) Rollins is someone you will love.

In need of some strength?

I was told once that motivation is like washing yourself every day. You know it’s important to stay clean yet how often do you wash your mind in order to keep your thoughts on track?

I understand that some people might find personal motivation to attain their goals a little easier than others and for them it’s just a case of man the fu@k up and get it done. However, from working with hundreds of different clients that stick approach doesn’t work for the majority and a drip, drip effect of constant reminding and the odd poking every now and again tends to get better results long term.

Follow your own path

So I got this comment on my Must v’s Shoulds article (yea it’s a fairly important one to read if you are new here) I wrote -

“I feel like I’m often having this conversation with people. You got any good articles that talk about the science behind it? Just want to be able to talk facts next time! Also, there are the odd people it seem to work for, annoyingly! (as in, they lose a lot of weight just running!)”

Sweat like a…..

Have you ever seen a picture that you really like and just had to share?

Well here are a few I love and hope they inspire you to get and stay in amazing shape.

Become the change you want to see

So you want to help your friends or family make some healthy changes to their activity levels or with their diet yet they just won’t listen to you God dammmmmit! So what do you do? Well you could keep trying knocking hard on that door and get zero reply or you could try the reverse approach and simply continuting to become the change you would like to see in others.

Why sex and supplements rule the fitness industry

Sex sells so if you want to get the truth on how to drop the fat and get in shape you should put down your glossy mag, switch off the MTV/reality TV show and let me explain how I have helped transform clients throughout 2011.

How you do anything is how you do everything

One of the hardest parts of being and becoming a successful personal trainer is getting your clients to be compliant or put simply do the stuff I told you was really important to do! My job would be much easier if everyone just turned up ready to rock, their diet was dialed in all the time and everyone put as much work and time into their own sessions as the ones they do with me.
