The best abs routine and importance of stretching

I have just done a video on what I find to be the best abs routine as I get more than a little frustrated with people banging on about wanting to drop fat off their stomach so I hope this answers this.

I have also covered stretching in the pieceĀ andĀ it was over 12mins but had to cut it back as I thought no one would watch it. Remember the quality of your movements is entirely dependent on the quality of your muscles i.e. if you can’t do the streches I cover then stop messing about doing lots of wastful abs exercises and spend more time foam rolling and doing proper stretching

So here it is and remember to rate it and post comments.

Thanks so much for the vid on the Stretches!! They are really really good – there are quite a few i think i need to work on.
Any of these particularly good for the groin adductors? They are causing me some problems on my Bulgarian split squats.

Quick Question about the exercises, I have heard a recent strength coach.com podcast that crunches are seriously bad for the back, proportionately worse, when you add weight. Do you think its a real issue, or just navel gazing by the experts?
For my abs i do weighted Turkish getups.

    • Hey man,
none of them will help with aductors so roll them more and do any stretch with legs wide to help stretch them out. If they are causing problems on split squats it might be because you are twisting your hips too much as they should not be involved too much – more the hip flexors on the split squats. I really must do a vid on felxibility standards for all the major muscle groups (the vid was much longer with more stretches but figured no one would look at it all).

Yes crunches are bad for your back when done incorrectly and what i see most often is people relaxing their abs on the way down which will cause the lower back to hollow and excessive pulling on lower back. Notice when i do the weighted crunches there is no sound of my back/shoulders hitting the floor as i keep my abs tight throughout. Listen to what i say at 4.30mins in and watch what i do with my lower back

I think most ‘experts’ want to be seen to reinvent the wheel all the time but i know myself and my clients benefit from direct, progressive and productive ab work and that includes weighted crunches.

Most people have really really poor flexibility and this will stop them from progressing to a degree as your movements will be better with better flexibility.

Remember to rate and comment on the videos on youtube and hope that helps
